Some Advice for tricking your Texas Hold Em competition

Posted under poker tournament & professional poker & texas holdem

poker
An important facet in poker tournaments is tricking your opponents by leading them to believe you have a superb poker hand, when in reality you could possibly you have a terrible hand. You may have heard this referred to as “Poker face”, an expressionless face to mislead your opponents into trusting in an idea that may not be true.

If you happen to have a good poker hand it is most likely going to make you feel nervous, could possibly make your hands shake, and your pulse rise. These are signs that your competitors may pick up on very quickly, especially if they are good friends of yours. Try not to glance at the pot if you have some good poker cards in your hands. This is an obvious gesture for your competition that you are, in your mind, adding up what you might win.

In the situation where you have a horrible poker hand, try not to keep yourself from glancing at your poker buddies, keep your eyes up, and don’t hesitate when you place your bet. When you can prove to yourself that your poker hand is equal, or better than your competition; you will possibly fool them into believing this as well. Keep in mind to make this seem as natural as possible. Your signals and actions may be saying one thing, while what you are saying are giving them a whole different idea.

Another significant aspect of Texas Hold Em is to be able to read your opponents “poker tells”. A “tell” is a gesture or habit that may give away information about their hand. One important aspect to keep in mind is when your competitor is acting as though he has a strong hand; he, very likely, has a poor hand. On the contrary, if he is acting as if he’s holding a weak hand, he probably has a pretty decent hand.

Posted under Poker & professional poker & world poker tour

World Poker Tour (WPT) Enterprises Incorporated has reported a ten percent overall increase in quarterly revenues compared to the same period last year but a $2.8 million net loss for the quarter. The Nasdaq-listed firm reported that online gambling revenues went from $600,000 over the first quarter of last year to $200,000 for the most recent period, showing the lower levels of player activity on the Cryptologic network versus the site operated by WagerWorks in 2007.

The total revenues increased to five million dollars compared to $4.5 million for the first quarter of 2007 due primarily to a $900,000 rise in hosting and sponsorship earnings largely from international television deals that did not exist in the prior period.

WPT expressed that business highlights included the production of seven episodes of the World Poker Tour Season VI, the premiere of Season VI on the GSN Network, continued progress in the development of its China National Traktor Poker Tour and the launch of ClubWPT.com. The WPT also reported an agreement with Cryptologic to get online casino games along with the development of Spanish and German language sites expected to be ready for service in June.

The company affirmed that domestic television licensing profits decreased from $2.4 million for the first quarter of 2007 to $2.1 in 2008. It also confirmed that this was due to lower per-episode license fees under the GSN contract. Still, the international television licensing revenues growth 69% to a total of $800,000.

WPT stated that it had no debt and total cash, cash equivalents and investments in marketable securities of approximately $26.9 million.

Paper or Plastic?

Posted under Poker & poker tournament & professional poker & texas holdem

While it might seem mundane to some, any professional level or serious gambler will say that the playing cards you use make all the difference in the player’s game. The different styles and different types of cards that are available are drawn from such a multitude that it is difficult to make the choice of what type of cards and what brand to choose as well as the inordinate amount of minutia that is associated with this type of decision. This might seem like an extreme exaggeration of the options available, but the selection is actually somewhat important, as the cards themselves can give away much about the player’s hand.
In the case of paper playing cards, they are easily mangled and destroyed, making it easy to understand the argument for plastic playing cards. As paper cards that are used in Texas Hold’em poker tournaments and other professional level events are used, they’re thrown away immediately after each match. This is to prevent cheating or players becoming familiar with the cards. While this is a sound strategy, most private players and even many commercial level poker rooms could not possibly afford this type of practice on a consistent basis and would soon be rendered inoperable. Paper cards are certainly acceptable, but it is important to note that they become deteriorated rather quickly and cannot stand up to the extended use.

In the case of plastic cards, while they are certainly superior in terms of longevity, there are other issues to be taken into account as well. First and foremost, any marks that are made on the cards surface are likely to be around a very long time, considering the nearly indestructible nature of plastic playing cards. In this case, the marks that are naturally occurring in any plastic playing cards will remain for a considerable amount of time, making it simple for players to become familiar with the deck and use this knowledge to their advantage. For this very reason, many tournaments do not allow any type of plastic cards in play, whether it is a Texas Hold’em poker tournament or some other variation of poker such as Omaha.

Making the choice between paper and plastic cards goes far deeper than this particular instance of marking surfaces, but these are the general concerns of most users, as the build up of these types of indicating marks can change the entire game for the player who is familiar with the product.

No Limit Versus Limit Texas Hold’em -Know When to Walk Away

Posted under Poker & poker tournament & professional poker & texas holdem

Competing in Texas Hold’em poker tournaments is an easy way to make money and have fun at the same time. These types of poker tournaments are essentially designed to cater to audiences from all over the world and attract people from all walks of life. In this way, more players can be exposed to the game itself, generating a whole new era of poker tournament players who will be attracted to the next generation of poker tournaments. In these tournaments, there are all manner of different types of gameplay styles, from Omaha to Texas Hold’em and on through the various details of different types of styles. While some styles are suited to all players, there are a few that only appeal to a very small section of users. No limit games fall into this category, with a very small subsection of players that participate in the no limit Texas Hold’em poker tournaments. These players are committed to playing in the no limit games for their extremely varied strategy and high stakes game play. Considering the difference between limit and no limit Texas Hold’em matches, the player can go all in with a highly exorbitant pot and simply push other players out in high limit games or no limit games. In other cases, they can walk away when they feel it prudent. These different types of strategies are highly effective methods that only work in no limit games that allow these types of massive bluffs and gameplay.

With no limit Texas Hold’em, players can compete against some of the best players in the world and still have the chance of beating them out simply by virtue of this type of strategy. With limit games, the strategy does not exist and players are forced to grind it out slowly but surely against the overwhelming competition. Fortunately, both styles do exist in most of these types of Texas Hold’em poker tournaments, allowing everyone to enjoy their favorite pastime equally. But for no limit Texas Hold’em poker tournament players, there is far more chance to generate a tremendous amount of earnings on the no limit Texas hold poker tournament circuit tour. This far faster method of generating revenue is very popular with many Texas Hold’em players simply because the no limit Texas Hold’em tournaments allow them to move into the highest profitable bracket very quickly with minimal effort.
